Yakushima island is World Heritage site in Japan. There are as many as 6 mountain peaks over 1,800 m high including Miyanoura-dake (1,935 m above sea level), the highest mountain in Kyushu, and this is what gives the island its other name-the ‘Alps on the ocean’. Jomon-Sugi is said to be 6,300 or 7,200 years old. It was well known in the Edo Period.
